What our course participants say

GYYM Kundenrezensionen
  • I have been attending the Pilates Reformer course at the Gyym fitness center since October 2024 and I am absolutely thrilled! The trainer Kristin is simply fantastic. Not only does she have impressive expertise, she also manages to create a motivating yet relaxed atmosphere. Since I have been taking part in her course, my back pain has been blown away! Kristin caters to the individual needs of each participant and ensures that all exercises are performed correctly. I have already noticed a significant improvement in my strength and flexibility! The groups are small, which allows for personal attention and makes you feel well looked after. The facilities at the gym are modern and inviting, and the equipment is top-notch. I can recommend this course to anyone who wants to improve their fitness and do something for their body at the same time. Thank you, Kristin, for your great work!

  • I've been going to Kristin's Pilates Reformer classes regularly for about half a year now - and I couldn't be happier! Kristin is simply a great trainer. She knows how to tailor each class perfectly to the individual needs and goals of the participants, while motivating and challenging them at the same time. In addition, the courses are limited to 8 places, which ensures that the training is optimally guided. This leaves enough time for individual corrections. The training takes place on state-of-the-art, new Merrithew equipment, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. You immediately notice that Kristin attaches great importance to quality - both in the equipment and in her work. Training with her has made a noticeable difference to me: I feel stronger, more flexible and generally more balanced. The progress I have made thanks to her guidance is not only visible, but also clearly noticeable in my everyday life. With her competent and empathetic manner, Kristin manages to create an atmosphere in which you immediately feel at ease. You can feel her expertise and passion for Pilates in every one of her classes - it's simply a pleasure to train with her. I can really only recommend Kristin to anyone looking for an effective, professionally guided Pilates workout. You're in the best hands with her!

The difference between Pilates and Pilates Reformer lies mainly in the execution and the equipment:

Pilates (mat Pilates):

  • Equipment: Usually performed on a mat. Occasionally small aids such as Pilates rollers, balls or resistance bands are used.
  • Exercises: Relying on your own physical strength and gravity. The focus is on activating the center of the body (core), flexibility, balance and control.
  • Access: It is minimalist and requires little equipment, making it easy to practice at home or in the studio.

Pilates Reformer:

  • Equipment: The Reformer device, a special training device with a movable platform (carriage), springs for resistance and additional handles and straps.
  • Exercises: Allows a greater variety and customization of exercises as the resistance and positions can be flexibly adjusted. You can train lying down, sitting, kneeling or standing.
  • Intensity: The variable resistance often makes the training more intensive and specific. It is particularly helpful for rehabilitation, targeted muscle building and for people with certain limitations.
  • Access: Usually offered in a studio under supervision, as the correct use of the device requires practice and experience.

Commonalities:

  • Both methods are based on the Pilates philosophy: strengthening the core muscles, improving posture and flexibility and promoting body control.
  • Both Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates can be adapted for every fitness level
  • More ease in walking, standing, sitting due to less tension.
  • Less back pain due to increased strength and mobility in the back
  • More inner security during movements that require good balance.
  • Increased tightening of the tissue.
  • Increased effectiveness of other training units (e.g. strength training) through transfer of the correct learned movement patterns.
  • More freedom of movement and less stiffness due to mobilized joints.
  • Good body feeling through improved posture

Pilates training on the reformer machines is an ideal addition to strength training. During every strength training session, the muscles are shortened and of course additional muscle mass is built up. For the muscles to function optimally, it is important that strength and elasticity are trained. This is the only way a muscle can be used in its full range of motion and build up maximum strength. It is precisely these elastic abilities that are promoted on the reformer, as springs are always used and these force the muscles to tense up against resistance.
